Hobsonville Cycleway Moves Ahead – Final Design Complete, Construction Set for Mid-2025
A major step forward for sustainable transport in West Auckland: the Hobsonville Road Cycleway has reached its final design stage, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-2025.
This new walking and cycling link will run along Hobsonville Road between the Brigham Creek roundabout and the start of the existing Hobsonville Point shared path, creating a continuous, separated route for people travelling on foot or by bike. Once complete, it will offer a safer, more accessible way to get around the area, whether you’re commuting, heading to school, or simply enjoying a ride.

The project is part of Auckland Transport’s wider initiative to make it easier for people to choose active modes of travel across the region. In Hobsonville, a fast-growing community with new housing, schools and businesses, the cycleway will help reduce pressure on roads, lower emissions, and support healthier lifestyles.
The design includes a two-way cycleway physically separated from traffic, improved pedestrian crossings, safer intersections, and strong connections to nearby schools, bus stops, and local amenities. Community feedback played a key role in refining the final design — helping to shape safer layouts, protect existing trees where possible, and ensure better integration with the surrounding neighbourhood.
Once underway, construction is expected to take around 18 months. Auckland Transport will work to minimise disruption during this time and keep the community informed as the project progresses.
The Hobsonville Road Cycleway is a welcome investment in the future of West Auckland, supporting a safer, more connected and more liveable city — one that makes it easier for everyone to choose how they get around.
