Meet Your New Local Bike Burb: Bike Hobsonville & West Harbour

With a brand new cycleway on the horizon for Hobsonville Road, the local biking scene is gearing up for something special. We’re excited to officially introduce Bike Hobsonville — a community-led Bike Burb focused on making it easier, safer, and more fun for everyone to ride bikes in Hobsonville and West Harbour.
What’s a Bike Burb?
Bike Burbs are grassroots cycling groups that exist across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. They’re made up of locals who want their neighbourhoods to be more bike-friendly and accessible for people of all ages and abilities. From advocating for better infrastructure to hosting community rides, each Bike Burb reflects the spirit of its own suburb — and we’re proud to be bringing that energy to Hobsonville and West Harbour.
There are already 37 Bike Burbs operating around the city, and now we’re part of this growing movement to bring safer cycling and stronger communities to the places we live.
What’s Happening in Hobsonville?
Over the past few months, Hobsonville Point has been buzzing with biking energy thanks to Auckland Transport’s Ready to Ride campaign. Focused on building bike confidence across the area, the campaign laid the groundwork for our new Burb — and we’re picking up the baton.
Bike Hobsonville is here to support every kind of rider: families with kids, commuters, weekend cruisers, and anyone who’s just curious to give cycling a try. We’re kicking things off with a series of group rides starting this August, with routes mostly around Hobsonville Point to make things accessible and beginner-friendly.
As one of our local organisers Derek Hogg puts it:
“It’s all very new and we’re learning as we go. Crank, the transport consultancy, have brought their expertise to the table which has really helped. We can’t wait to connect with more people on bikes around Hobsonville and West Harbour – and those who are keen to give it a go!”
